Objective: Identify a small town in the United States and generate an identity package which leverages unique opportunities from the towns people, location, natural features, festivals or history.
Concept: A small town needs a big idea. The beauty of Talkeetna is in it’s simplicity and it’s hindrance of modernizing. Given the name by Native Americans meaning “where the rivers meet”, the town of Talkeetna is the junction of three rivers and is home to approximately 800 people and their mayor is a cat. It is a small hippie like town where not much has changed, the people are friendly, and there are quirky and family fun festivals year round.
In creating an identity for this town, it was important to draw on some of these aspects, to create a mark that is fresh, fun, and indicative of Native American culture.
The solution is a “T” made of totem pole like touches, with the color choices of cranberry and teal used as an abstraction of the rivers and Nagley’s General Store. As an extension is a pattern that can be utilized whether it is the back of a business card and letterhead or the lining of an envelope.
