latitude grappa

Objective: The name Latitude was given to me as part of the project outline and leveraged in order to create a brand and packaging for three bottles of Grappa.

Concept: It is important to note that available only as an import, grappa is distilled in the town Bassano del Grappa in Italy, Italian parts of Switzerland, or in San Marino. Made by distilling the skins, pulp, seeds, and stems, or pomace, it is the left overs from winemaking after pressing the grapes, but that does not mean it is cheap. Typically served as an after-meal drink, grappa is added to coffee and mostly consumed in the winter months for it “warms” the throat.

In creating a brand, it was important to remain loyal to grappa’s roots. Old Italian travel posters were referenced as well as the colors and type used. Because three bottles were to be created, the ages of grappa were researched in which colors to represent them: green for the young Giovane, red for the refined Affinata, and black for the old Riserva. Together in a limited collection, they are packaged in a wooden case indicative of its traveling intent to other countries.
