Objective: Identify an artist and develop a retrospective publication of their work, words and process. This catalog is of the young graphic designer turned painter, Devona Stimpson.

Concept: Abstract and contemporary with an urban twist, and heavily influenced by emotion, Stimpson typically depicts powerful and sensual women. While the expressions and postures radiate vulnerability, they are also full of strength, a contradiction that is thought provoking, beautiful and captivating.

By contacting Stimpson herself, I felt like I got to know her and her sense of style. In this catalog, her vibrant paintings take center stage, but that doesn’t mean everything else falls to the wayward. The overlapping type, boldness, and color, can hold their on. More than a catalog of her artwork are corresponding captions, table of contents, an interview, and texture throughout the book, it’s all an extension of the artwork but in a toned down manner.
